The show “What Not To Wear” on TLC is so hilarious to me most of the time…

There is nothing like the smell of clothes that you hung outside to dry!

So fresh, so unique a smell and much more economical than using your dryer.

I love it when it finally gets warm enough outside in Niagara in the Spring to hang out those clothes.

This morning, my mother and I went on our yearly trek out to our local nursery in Niagara Falls to get the started tomato and pepper plants, herbs and some beautiful baskets for mom’s beautiful stands in her yard.

We often buy seeds for our bush beans and anything else that strikes our fancy.

Well, it’s middle of June and the nursery was a ghost town when it came to customers.

There were a handful of workers and including us, maybe 6 customers at Country Basket.

Usually, when we make our visit, it is packed out there – especially this late into the season.

The prices we were looking at were quite high as well. I suppose because they do have less customers, they need to make more money per customer that does come in.

The usual fabulous customer service was now sub-par this year, even though we left with a heftier bill than most people probably would.

Why? Because flowers are not a necessity in the lives of financially struggling Canadians and Americans. It’s a shame.

My husband, my mother and I each got a new laptop computer a few years back.

When we did, they were rather expensive – one of them running into the $2K range.

I’ve been looking at a few new laptops online within the past few weeks, and have noticed a dramatic decrease in the prices.

Laptop companies are struggling too in this economy, as are the retail stores that sell them.

It was only a few months ago that the prices on the Rainbow Bridge jumped up to $3.50 from $3.00.

It was @ $3.00 when the American and Canadian dollar were equal.

However, I just went away to Dallas for a month or so, and I went over the river to shop a bit.

On my way home I had to pay a $4.00 Canadian toll! What? That’s absolutely ridiculous.

Not only do you have to pay customs/duty on the purchases you make, but you have to pay $4.00 to cross the bridge to get back to Canada.

It’s only $3.50 USD for Americans to return.

Wow – nickeling, diming and quartering you!!!

I went to Dallas for 2 months, come back to Niagara Falls and went grocery shopping for my mother.

At the checkout, I asked the cashier to double bag a particularly heavy bag full of cans and bottles.

She asked me if I was sure I wanted to do that.

I gave her a perplexed look, and she explained that from now on, all the grocery stores in our area will charge 5¢ per grocery bag.

Why is this? Because they are encouraging us to reuse our grocery bags or buy the reusable, tough grocery bags that you bring with you when you shop.
