Every little bit helps!
The Juravinski Cancer Centre’s Breast Disease Site Team hosts the inaugural Bright Run/Walk to support breast cancer research in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
BRIGHT stands for Breast Cancer Research in Greater Hamilton Today and underscores the commitment the JCC’s Breast Disease Site Team has to its patients through treatment and leading-edge research. In fact, the JCC is home to many renowned researchers whose work in clinical trials and health services research has improved and advanced the treatment of breast cancer patients locally, nationally and around the world.
BRIGHT Run participants will have the option of walking or running along the beautiful Rail Trail. Walkers can choose a 1km or 5km route and runners can choose a 5km or 10km route. There will also be many activities at the Trail Centre for participants of all ages to enjoy. Best of all, proceeds from the BRIGHT Run will benefit the JCC’s Breast Cancer Research Program.
All monies raised will stay in Hamilton and be used specifically at the Juravinski Regional Cancer Centre for breast cancer research. None of the funds will go into the Toronto program. Also - all radiation treatments for the Niagara area is done at JCC.
Why Would I Run?
My Mother is a 2 1/2 yr breast cancer survivor, and was treated in Hamilton with radiation. I am so very blessed to have my mother still with us, as we know all too well how serious cancer can be, as we lost my father to a rare cancer, the same week we found out mom’s diagnosis.

A worthy cause to help in the research, treatment, cures for cancer. Your assistance will be most appreciated. This help comes at a time when people are at the lowest points in their lives and every kindness on your is so very important to the victims of cancer. I would like to participate in the walk but I don’t know how I would get my electronic wheelchair to the location. If I could, I would certainly be there. I am so grateful for everything that has been accomplished on my behalf.
Please be part of the cure!!!
My good stumble friend, kelliannie, says:
“Good luck Kimberly. I’m glad to hear your mom is well today. Wish I could donate more.
Susan”
Well, Susan, everything helps and I want to give you a huge THANK YOU for your donation! It is so much appreciated! You are a great friend!

My good stumble friend, slantera, says:
“Congrats to your moms survival. I am going to try to get others to help out.”
Thanks so much Sly! It is so appreciated! I love the internet…I can get the word out so much easier and more effectively than running door to door…

Phew…Well, I’ve been training hard for my 5 km, with a sub par knee…but it’s getting better everyday, and I am fully convinced that I’ll be ready for the 6th!
I’m a little sore, but it’s a “good sore”…LOL…
Thank you for all of your kind words, encouragement, and thanks to those of you who have sent in pledges for me!

Hi Kimberly,
I encourage you to run for this great cause. I also encourage you to experiment more with running to make it a pain-free experience.
However, I do not wish to make personal comments as I have given up running due to various inconveniences including but not limited to an ingrown toenail. See, I am “perfectionist”. I never give out advice unless it has been stress-tested and various variables have been taken into account. I hope you understand.
There’s also the Terry Fox Run coming on Sunday 14th. Links:

I hope the information proves useful to you as much as it has been to me.
