When it comes to buying gifts for girlfriends or wives, men often enter into a zone that can best be described as paralysis. You often feel as though you’re in a no-win situation. If you don’t buy a gift, you’ll definitely be in the doghouse. Yet, if you buy the wrong gift, you may end up getting fleas as well.

Women don’t make the dilemma any easier, since they are notorious for expecting you to read their minds. After all, if you REALLY loved her, you’d know exactly what she’s always longed for. You’d select the perfect gift and experience her glistening eyes and radiant smile as she showered you with thanks and praise. All too often, though, you get one of two reactions: if you’re lucky, there’s a slight trembling of the lip and a tight smile as she struggles not to show her disappointment. If you’re not lucky, you’re subject to a withering look and a deep sigh that signals you’ve once again failed in the gift-giving department. It’s no wonder that, at gift giving occasions, men either make themselves scarce or resign themselves to an excruciating experience.

Finding the right gift for your significant other, regardless of the occasion, could become a very difficult and stressful experience. It is not the same as buying a gift for a family member or a friend. Choosing the right gift will show your affection towards her, and how much you care about her. The seriousness and the type of the relationship will dictate what the meaning of the gift as well.

What would the right gift be for a relationship that is new? In this situation, when you have only gone out a few times, and the commitment level is low, buying the right gift is very tricky. Buying the wrong gift can seriously change the status of the relationship. It can either turn it into a very serious full-fledged commitment, or, at the opposite extreme, a break up. The safe, acceptable gift in this early stage of the relationship is the usual card and flowers.

Women, however, appreciate it when a man spends time picking out the right gift for her. So it is very important to listen carefully to what she says. Pay attention to any hints she might drop, and then surprise her with something you know she will love.

The present a married man will give to his wife would be very different. The most common gift married men give their wives is jewelry. This gift will please any woman, married or not.
