Naprosyn is also called Naproxen (Aleve), amongst other names, and I was prescribed it this past week.
I have taken it in the past for pain relief, years ago, but this time, I retained water so badly that it was painful…
I never could really appreciate it when people talked about how awful it was to retain water…
I believe them now!!!
It feels like your skin is going to burst…It hurts to bend your joints, kneel down, etc. You feel bloated and “large and in charge”…
I am typically a 125 lb girl…I know I was many pounds heavier while retaining all of this fluid.
Problem was, I didn’t realize that I was also contributing to the effect by drinking Gatorade.
I was so thirsty and we were trying to “replenish” my fluids. Well, only drink water!!!
Gatorade has electrolytes in it, meaning salt…Naproxen is a salt-based medication…This is what causes you to retain the water.
The water is held up and inaccessible to your body because it’s held in the salt…So not cool!
So, if you are retaining water, only drink water, nothing that has any trace of salt, such as vegetable juices or good old Gatorade!
