Alzheimer’s - Stealing our Family

Why does it seem that the increase in Alzheimer’s these days is alarming?

Why is this happening? How can it be prevented?

alzheimers

So many questions, I know.

What I do know about Alzheimer’s is that it’s a debilitating disease, leaving the person confused, forgetful and even unable to recognize their friends and family.

This virtually “steals” that person from their family. It’s sad and it doesn’t feel fair for anyone.

Alzheimer’s patients often need 24 hour care or supervising because they can be a danger to themselves and others.

Forgetfulness could cause them to forget they’re cooking and this could cause a fire.

Disorientation and confusion could cause a person with Alzheimer’s to go missing because they can’t find their way home or forget where they’re from - even their name.

Not all hope is lost though. There are times when these people are completely lucid and able to carry on a conversation. It’s like they get a glimpse back into their own life for a brief moment, and can fade away into another world the next.

It’s a brain disease where the neurons no longer can transport the nerve impulses in the brain to and from each other creating what we know as memory and brain function.

Need Migraine Relief?

Ever since university, I have been debilitated by migraines.

It used to only be a couple times a year in college, but as the years have gone on, I get them more frequently.

Sigg Maharadsha Fuschia Water Bottle - 33 oz water bottleI find the greatest precipitator is dehydration. I have to stay hydrated by drinking the “prescribed” amount of WATER per day. So, prevention is, in fact, the best policy here…

In fact, my mother and I have a competition every day to see who can drink their gallon water bottle first.

However, there are days where I am lax, and I suffer for it.

Stress brings it on, overheating too (but this comes back to being hydrated).

My migraines consist of pounding head pain that is not always concentrated in any one area. I am sensitive to light, sound and heat. I must lie down and be very quiet. I get them so bad at times I am extremely nauseated or it can cause me to vomit.

Well, if you have been struck by a terrible migraine, what in the world helps?

If it’s too late for prevention of a migraine and you’re right in the middle of being bombarded, here’s some advice…

I have tried just about everything, even my mother’s prescription pain medication when I have been extremely desperate, and I have only found 1 medication to help me…Every single time…

Excedrin Migraine…Sometimes, I need 2 of them, but within about 15 minutes and a bottle of water later, I can pretty much feel normal.

If you get migraines as terrible as mine, I hope that you’ll try this…It may very well help you too…

I know that when you have a migraine like a freight-train, you’ll do anything to get rid of it.

I hope this Headache Tip from Your Health Today helps you! Until next time…

P.S. Be prepared…I even carry a bottle in my purse with me, and keep one in the glove box of my car:

Excedrin Migraine is the first non-prescription medicine approved by the FDA to treat all the symptoms of a migraine.

14 Brain Power Boosters

Blue Number 14My good stumble friend, KarenBen, shared an article with me about 14 ways to boost brain power that I’d like to share with you.

It used to be believed that once you hit your 20s, neurons in your brain started to weaken and memory loss begins…They thought it was irreversible, but have now discovered that once old neurons wear out, we can activate new ones, as part of a brain “rewiring”, so to speak…Find out how!

I am summarizing and just listing the ways and leaving the link to the article for you to read more on each point. If you’re looking for a quick list that’s straight to the point, and easy to understand, here it is:

1. Physical Exercise

2. Lifelong Learning - Your brain is a learning machine

3. Mental Stimulation

4. Social Interaction - People are good medicine

5. Sleep & Nap

6. Stress Management

7. Laugh & Humor
