So, why are you wondering why your yard and garden beds look so messy right now?

It’s probably the falling leaves from the trees that are keeping your lawn and garden looking neat, tidy and perfect.

It’s covering up the pretty black soil, makes your plants look messy and well, covers up your green grass that may have another month or two left before the cold of winter starts to set in.

No problem - it’s an easy fix…Grab that rake or a leaf blower.

How to Hand Wash Clothes in a Double Sink

Well, no doubt, if you’re human, you’ll have to hand wash your clothes at some time in your life.

When you do, remember these tips for an easy way to hand wash your clothes in a sink.

1. Pre-Soak: You will want to pre-soak your clothes in one side of the sink in cold water for darks and colors and warm for whites. This will get your clothes wet and releasing a good deal of dirt, if there is any.

* Tip: If you’re washing a variety of colors, be sure to start with all of your white, then pastels, then brights, then darks. If you get out of synch with this order, you’ll end up with pink whites, and dingy colors.

2. Wash: In the other side of the sink from where you’re pre-soaking, you’ll mix your water and washing detergent. A few items at a time, transfer the clothes from the pre-soaking side to the washing side after wringing water out of them.

You will swish the clothes around in the water, scrubbing any problem areas and being sure to squish the soapy water through them.

* Tip: You will be “balling up” each item and “kneading” it against the side of the sink - as you would a ball of bread dough. Allowing the ball the fill up with water again in between kneads, so you can really get a good wash through the clothing.

When you feel comfortable that they are adequately washed, item by item, wring out as much water as you can and set the clothes aside until you’re finished washing - whites with whites, colors with colors, darks with darks - and do not let them touch or you could have bleeding of the dyes in the clothing onto lighter colored pieces.

* Tip: If water in either side gets too dingy and dirty or you no longer feel soap on your hands when washing, empty the sink completely and start over with fresh water, or fresh water and soap, for the next batch of clothing.

3. Rinse: Starting with Continue Reading…

Cleaning Erasers Rock!

That’s right…They really do!

PROFESSOR AMOS 25 PIECE CLEANING ERASER KIT

Better than anything else, they can get crayon, pen, marker, soap scum, burned on stuff on your stove…almost anything off of surfaces.

They are safe and non-toxic and I usually only dampen them with water before I use them.

Cleaning erasers wear away when used, as an eraser would, so they don’t last forever, but they do a great job cleaning…

Honestly, I’ve never seen soap scum buildup before like that gets on our shower…

I guess we use a lot of soap, and it seems that the one shower’s material is slightly different than that of the other shower in the house. This one is especially difficult to clean.

However, using a cleaning eraser, it’s Continue Reading…

Dryer Balls Are Better!

SET OF 4 DRYER MAX LAUNDRY DRYER BALLS

Dryer balls are the new hotness in laundry!

Why?
Because they are non-toxic.

What do you mean? Dryer Sheets are toxic?
Unless they say they aren’t, they are! So, yes, they are!

Sheets have chemicals and fragrances in them, which get all over your clothing, towels, sheets, etc.

Recently, I just started to have a sensitivity to something in our dryer sheets, I deduced. So, I stopped using them, and my problems went away.

The only time you are not surrounded in chemicals, is when you’re naked. Even in bed, you are surrounded by your blankets and sheets, all with those same chemicals. In fact, when you get out of the shower, you are surrounding yourself with those chemicals on the towels.

These new dryer balls fluff up your laundry in the dryer to allow for more movement and air to get into your washables.

Not only that, dryer balls can be used over and over again, for years! They are rugged and durable.

If you use dryer sheets, beware of fires!

Are you kidding?
I am not kidding. I saw a safety spot on the news one night explaining that dryer fires are mostly caused by dryer sheets. Not directly, but the chemicals they leave in your lint filter accumulate and block air from getting through the mesh.

Do This Experiment For Yourself!
Take your dryer filter out, clean the lint out, and then run water in the pocket. What you will see will shock you.

You’ll see that the chemicals clog the pores of the filter to the point that water won’t pass through the mesh! I am not kidding. I tried it with ours.

So, if you use dryer sheets, you need to clean your filter with a brush, soap and hot water and scrub that accumulation away!

Not only is it dangerous, but it makes your dryer less efficient and more prone to breaking down, as explained by machine repair-people.

Environmental Implications:
Dryer balls are environmentally friendly. Dryer sheets have all of those chemicals, which eventually end up in the environment, and although sheets are only tiny when you throw them in the garbage, think about the waste in garbage dumps over so many years from every home in your country.

That will really add up, not to mention the packaging that goes into the boxes they come in.

My Suggestion:
Purchase some dryer balls and use them instead of dryer sheets. They’re better for you, for your family, for your dryer and the environment too! By the way, I prefer using 4 dyer balls for better performance.
