A few days ago, I signed up with Bidz.com

It’s an auction jewelry site, where you often win auctions at a serious fraction of what the piece of jewelry is worth.

Within 3 minutes of me being on the site, I won my first auction and was so happy that I did. I bought a gorgeous bracelet for my hubby for Valentine’s Day!

Since then, we’ve won about 8 auctions, including my mother…ranging from winners at $6 up to $236.

You can actually win auctions for $1 on all sorts of jewelry, up to jewelry that goes for $21,000! Really beautiful, unique pieces you haven’t seen anywhere else.

For example, we just won an auction on a 18.95 ctw Mystic Topaz with two 1.70ctw amethysts ring set in 14K yellow gold, appraised at $1,869…We won the auction at $168. This is a gorgeous ring!

Yesterday, my mother won an auction with a ring appraised at $929.00 for $236.00 - She had to have it! LOL

It has a 2.10 ctw amethyst in the middle surrounded by 16 baguettes between 0.2 and 0.4 ctw of genuine aquamarine, citrine, garnet, modavite, amethyst, peridot, rhodolite garnet and topaz, all set in 10K yellow gold!

I recently wrote a post about Tips for Guys Buying Jewelry on Blog N’ Butter’s main blog…

But I neglected to tell them about a great way to save money and get more bang for your buck when buying diamonds…

It’s to buy loose diamonds!

That way, you cut out that extra, expensive middle man…

However, please don’t forget that you’ll have to get it set for a ring, earrings or whatever it is you have your sights set on!

Just be sure to follow the 4 Cs - color, clarity, carat weight and cut - to get the quality of diamond you want!

Also, please don’t forget that there are a number of different colors of diamonds…They’re all so very glamorous!

I have been absolutely loving the pink gold and bronze jewelry that has been popular as of late.

I especially love it when they pair it with pink colored stones! What a hot statement!

I just purchased a gorgeous necklace from Bijoux Terner at the Buffalo Niagara Airport that I am so excited to wear in an upcoming photo shoot!

Pink is always in style, in my opinion, so wear it proudly!

If you’ve been a pink lover for years, spruce it up with bronze or pink gold settings.

How Not to Clean your Jewelry

I can still remember sitting in a chemistry class, so bored that I was supporting my increasingly heavy head on the heel of my left hand, when I got a whiff of the most disgusting odour. I looked at the classmate to my left, from where the smell seemed to be emanating.

He was an immaculately turned out pupil who smelled more of soap than, well, soap did. The culprit lay closer to home. I gazed down at my wrist. A quick sniff of my watch strap, and I nearly gagged. A few weeks of washing-up at home without bothering to take my watch off had taken its toll. My watch-strap, and particularly the thin rungs that connected the strap to the watch, reeked of rotting detergent and semi-dissolved food particles.

It was as though the dog had thown up on my wrist. I was in need of a strong chemical to neutralize the smell. I was in need of a jewelry cleaner.

Professionals can clean any item of jewelry. It can be a tricky task to find the right cleaning tool/chemical combo to get the job done, but an indepth knowledge of gems, metals and stones enables the professional to come up with the right solution every time. However, for a gangly, acne-ridden 15-year-old school boy, taking a minging watch to the jewelers would have been a devastating experience. I might as well have donned a sack-cloth and walked around ringing a bell and intoning ‘Unclean!’ to warn my classmates away. I had no choice. I had to do it at home.
