How To Do Laundry on Vacation

So, you are off in some deliciously sunny locale and you realize you need to do some laundry…

Shucks! Well, it’s not so bad…Because I always bring one small container of delicate washing detergent and one of fabric softener.

You don’t need a large container, just one like you would buy at your local superstore where the travel size beauty products are that would be perfect for traveling.

You should look for 2 tightly closing plastic bottles with a good cap on them, maybe the size of a travel mouthwash - you know, like you would put shampoo or conditioner in…

…Be sure to pack them in your luggage you check, so you don’t have a problem getting through security and be sure to put them in a Ziploc-type plastic bag, just in case they leak in your bags, it won’t be all over your clothes.

That way, whenever you need to wash your undies, bras, swimsuits or anything else, for that matter, you’ll be completely prepared.

* Tip: ALWAYS hand wash metallic swim suits!!! If you don’t, you may lose all of the metallic finish right down the drain. Even if you’re at home, never wash these suits with other laundry. If you are going to wash them in the washing machine, do so on delicate with delicate detergent in cold water - and you’ll still want to cross your fingers…Believe me - I learned the hard way!

Simply hang dry your clothing in your hotel room and you’re good to go…plus, you’ll have less laundry when you get back home.

Best Way to Pack Clothing for Travel

Whenever I travel, I use one method for packing my clothing to ensure I can fit all the clothes I may want or need.

In order to ensure maximum use of your space and keep your clothes relatively unwrinkled, you’ll want to roll your clothes in your luggage!

That’s right. Rolling clothes keeps them as free from wrinkles as you can, plus allows you to pack a lot of clothing in the space that you do have available.

Fold pants in half at the waist, the half them bringing the ankles to the waist. Now, roll where the two ends meet as tightly as possible and place in your bag.

For tops, fold shoulder to shoulder, tuck arms in and half it again, as you did the pants, end to end. Then, roll tightly and place in bag.

You get the idea.

I like to set aside half of my bag for tops, half for bottoms and the middle for dresses and shoes.

I pick up large plastic resealable bags from the grocery store or your local restaurant supply store to pack each pair of shoes or sandals in, usually sole to sole for sandals - for pumps, fitting them with top sides together, but oppositely - for running shoes, side-by side.

All you need to do is follow the weight restrictions now!

Great Barrier Reef Month @ ExoticAnimalLover.com

If you’ve never had the chance to visit Australia before, you really must go…at all costs…before you die!

Australia is probably thee most beautiful place I’ve ever visited and could move there tomorrow, given the chance.

February is Great Barrier Reef Month

The Great Barrier Reef is in the Coral Sea off the coast of Queensland in Australia. It is a World Heritage Listed Natural Wonder of the World.

Honestly, when I travel, I want to see ocean and/or wildlife. If there’s nothing like that to see, it probably won’t interest me so much!

That’s what I really love about traveling…

Once animals are extinct, there is no coming back, and it’s happening at a more alarming rate than ever!

Luggage to Indulge In

I picked my mother up from the airport the other day, and saw a set of luggage coming out on the conveyor that was unbelievably awesome!

So classy, elegant and totally stylish!

I found out that it was from Diane von Furstenberg, and I did a little bit of research online to find it for you!

It stood out from the crowd of black bags, and shone!

It is a beige-cream color, and has faux-crocodile embellishments.

The suitcases are wheeled and have pull out handles too.

Actually, the whole set is 4 different bags. A large suitcase, small suitcase, tote bag, and a wheeled city carry on.

Just beautiful and I had to share it with you here!

Awesome!

Who’s Tired of Airplane Pretzels?

I AM!

I am not a pretzel fan, but that’s not the issue…

The issue is that you pay A LOT for plane tickets nowadays…I just finished paying upwards of $400 for my last one, and I get what? 1 bag of pretzels, and no choice of anything else, even to purchase separately…

This wasn’t on a short flight either…My flights were upwards of 3 hrs…

Not only that, when I ask for a drink, I have to ask for it with no ice because if they put ice in the cup, I might get 2 sips of the beverage.

What else?

Even if you ask for the rest of the can or bottle of the beverage, 95% of the time, they’ll tell you no…NO? Are you for real?

That’s just the food & beverage issues…LOL…Don’t get me started…LOL

That’s my rant of the day!

You Think You Have Sun Where You Live?

Have you ever experienced the Texas Sun?

If you haven’t…You have NO IDEA!

Let’s put it this way, I just arrived in Dallas on September 25th. On September 26th, we played a little bit of flag football outside…what…a few hours of sun in the fall, right?

I got sooo burnt, it’s not even funny…

The Texas sun is blazing! I’m not even prone to sun burn, but you better be sure to wear your sunscreen, especially if you are…

It is fall, and it is hotter here right now than it felt all summer long in Ontario, although we had an especially cold and rainy one…

Now I remember why I went to school here…those Canadian winters are brutal! Fall only lasts a short while there before it gets very cold.

I’m not saying that Texas is warm all year round, but it RARELY snows…I think we had a slight dusting about 4 yrs ago one morning that immediately melted as it hit the ground…

Moreso, it is rainy and cold…but only for about 2 months…Then it starts warming up again!

Canadian winters last sometimes from October through April…I mean, with snow the whole time too…

There are winters that we’ve only had snow from December through March, but those are more rare.

If you’re looking for maximized sunshine, Texas is the place to go!

If you’re looking for a place for your next Spring Break, South Padre Island is a fun place to go.

I had the pleasure of going for a few days in my Freshman year at Texas A&M University. It is the Southern-most tip of the United States on the border of Madamoris, Mexico.

We had fun-in-the-sun, it’s a huge college party, and we even went to Mexico one night to have fun in a large group.

* Tip: It can be dangerous to go by yourself or even a small group into Mexico. Stay together at all times, don’t travel too far from the border and stay in busy places…Never go anywhere by yourself! Most of all, don’t get so inebriated that you don’t know what’s going on either!

Tip for Rescheduling Your Flights

If you are stuck at an airport with a delayed or canceled flight, and are looking at a daunting line-up for your airline’s customer service desk that is 2 city blocks long, check out the self-serve kiosks…

I just watched 10s of flights be canceled at the Washington Dulles Airport on United Airlines…

I watched a line-up form that, seriously, from one end of terminal A to the other end.

I walked up near the desk and saw that the self-serve kiosks were not being used…So, I politely asked if anyone was waiting for them, and they all said “No”…

So, I rescheduled my canceled flight myself, and those poor people will have to stand in that line for hours, no doubt…I’m sitting at my new gate and hopefully this delayed flight won’t be canceled too, or I’ll be sleeping in the airport tonight…

Well, at least this is a great tip and could get you from Point A to Point B a whole lot quicker!

Washington Dulles Airport

This was my very first connection at the Washington Dulles Airport.

About 30 min before my flight, the sky got very dark and flights were being delayed and canceled left and right.

So, as of now, my flight is 2 hrs delayed…

I was a little disappointed, in fact…There were only a handful of pay phones in the entire terminal I was at, and a VERY limited number of power outlets per gate…This was so surprising to me, as this is WASHINGTON!

Anyway, my Chai Tea Latte was good from the Mayorga Coffee House in Terminal A; in fact, it was stellar…Kudos!

They have neat shuttle buses from terminal to terminal here…They almost look military-like or space-like…Super high off the ground, and holding a lot of people per shuttle.

Thus far, this was my experience. Not my favorite airport, as far as I can tell.

Dressing for Your Flights

When you travel on airplanes and you are deciding what to wear on your trip day, you have 2 choices, if you are not traveling for business and it doesn’t matter…

1. Go Stylish

2. Go Comfy

What do I choose, more often than not?

Comfy wins most of the time, especially if you’re traveling in winter or know your headed for inclement weather…

Why is this? Well, you are more likely to deal with delays and cancelations of your flights…You’ll be moved from terminal to terminal and gate to gate, lugging all of your carry-on bags.

Yup…not cool in stilettos…You’ll look cute in them, but you’ll hate yourself by the end of the day!

If you have to look cute, bring your pumps in your carry-on and change into them when you arrive at your destination, but keep your trusty running shoes, Crocs or sandals for travel.

Also, always bring a sweater, sweatshirt, long-sleeved shirt or light jacket with you. Sometimes planes are warm with non-operating air conditioning, and sometimes they are a freezer.

Be ready to layer your clothes for more comfortable travel!

Great Tip: Bring a pair of sockettes if you’re wearing sandals or Crocs…just in case. A pair of sockettes is so small that it will easily fit in your purse or other carry-on.

Hey…Just because you go comfy, doesn’t mean you have to wear your baggiest, house jogging pants…You know the ones…Nope…Wear a cool running suit or tights and a comfy, but stylish t-shirt.

The easiest way to go comfy, but stylish, is to go sporty!
