Beware the Ban by World of Warcraft

This happened back in September of 2007, but it should be known, so others don’t get shut out of World of Warcraft!

A player, by the name of Shaks, on the World of Warcraft site, is one of renown when it comes to investing in the fabulous and rare games and paraphernalia of video games.

Another player, by the name of Zeuzo, decided to sell a Level 70 Rogue armed, apparently, with the best gear in the entire game.

Well, we come to find out, that Blizzard, who runs World of Warcraft, does not appreciate people selling their WoW characters.

How did they find out? How wouldn’t they find out? This was huge news on gamer blogs and forums and it leaked back to Blizzard, who slapped a ban on Shaks from playing World of Warcraft.

Okay…so…why is this a big deal? Apparently, Shaks paid $7000 Euro to buy this awesome Rogue character…

Couldn’t he resell it? What does it matter now? Come on people…Do you really think they’re not on the lookout for a Level 70 Rogue with the same gear? Who in the world would want to touch that with a 10 foot pole, if they’ll be banned too?

Beware before you buy or sell! Before you do something like this, it would be a great idea to read the “Terms and Service Agreement”!

I was “Stumbling” around the net and found this really neat site where you can download Mac games or for Windows on your PC.

How many times have you gone to a store, bought a game for your computer, got it home, unwrapped it, tried it out, and you were completely unsatisfied?

What do you do?: Take it back to the store, right?

What do they say?: They can’t take it back because it’s already out of the package…How ridiculous, right?

What I like about this site is that you can download and play their games for free to make sure you really like the game before you buy it…If you don’t, go download another game and try it before you buy it! Great!

Are Video Games Becoming Too Violent?

Are video games becoming to violent? Long gone are the classic video game days. No longer do we have Super Mario Brothers or Atari. Today the games have taken a whole new direction. Violence, yup violence, is the new factor in a majority of all video games. From Halo to other games killing, killing and more killing is the main ingredient in all games. Now are violent video games having a negative impact on our society? I believe violent video games are having a negative impact on our society.

Now many people are blaming video game companies for producing such violent games. But is it the video game companies fault. Or is it the parents fault for allowing kids to play these games. I think it is a little of both. With these major video game corporations I believe they have a responsibility to the public to produce video games which contribute to overall good of our society. I believe they have a responsibility to put out games which help our society not contribute in a negative way by making kids into degenerate thugs.

Now I also believe the parents have the larger responsibility as parents. Now let’s be honest about the video game corps, bottom line they are in it for the money. So the video game corporations cater to what the consumer wants. Whether the consumer is a 30 year old man or your 12 year old son. What do they care as long as their merchandise is off theshelves, kind of like a drug dealer. So the responsibility lays on the parents to step up. Trust me if parents stopped buying these games for their kids, the video game companies would get the hint and the games would change.

Can Video Games Turn A Fat Couch Potato Into A Stud?

When I was a young kid my buddies and I used to sit around for hours on end playing video games, drinking soda, and munching on junk food. Ah, those were the days. Thankfully we did other things such as climb trees and swim all day which kept us in good shape. If we hadn’t done those things, I’m positive the video games would have turned us into fat, lazy adults.

Back in the days of Sega Genesis and the original Nintendo, all you really did was sit on your butt and move your fingers around the controller. Usually there was a bottle of soda or some sugary drink on one side, and a bag of junk food on the other. These were designated for when the games were loading.

Thankfully the creators of video games today have gotten much smarter and more health conscious. They finally started to realize the dangers of obesity the children of today are facing, and they’re finally starting to take the right actions to correct it.

Nintendo Wii, in my opinion, is one of the best products any company has come out with in a very long time. It lets children (and adults) simultaneously have a lot of fun while getting a great workout in.

Although not every game makes you move around a lot, some of them, the boxing games in particular, are spectacular for some great gaming fun with a good workout. A few weeks ago I played for about 45 minutes straight with my girlfriend’s cousin and by the time I was done I had worked up a pretty good sweat.

This is the perfect opportunity for an otherwise “lazy” person to be able to workout and honestly not even realize it. Granted, someone playing a video game on Nintendo Wii won’t get into great shape, but for someone who never exercises it can produce some pretty great results if played consistently enough.

Other Ways To Exercise While Playing Video Games

It doesn’t have to stop with playing the game as it’s supposed to be played does it? Say, for example, instead of just playing the boxing game, you drop down for a set of pushups after round 1. Then after round 2, pop off some bodyweight squats for 30 seconds. Round 3 can be for some core work, and so on and so forth.

You see, by getting a little creative anybody can work out while playing video games. People who don’t like to exercise can try to challenge themselves to complete some type of exercise before the game loads or before the next round comes back.

When I play video games I like to sit on an exercise ball and tense my stomach while I’m playing, then perform some type of exercise when the game is loading for the next round, checkpoint, game save, etc.

If I get bored with that I’ll also jump up and down, in essence jumping rope with no rope, on either 1 foot or both for a minute or 2. This is one of my favorites because not only does it provide a workout, but it makes the game a little harder since the controller is a little harder to handle when you’re bouncing up and down.

Another benefit of doing this is because it will prompt you to drink water while you’re doing it. I don’t know a single person who drinks soda or beer while working out, and I hope I never meet a person that does. Most people are dehydrated nowadays, so this might help.

Although I think this is a great opportunity for otherwise lazy folks who can’t motivate themselves to work out, I don’t condone using this as your only means of exercise. If you haven’t exercised in years, you can follow this plan for a month or so. Then I would suggest figuring out a real workout plan and sticking to it.

If you aren’t a video gamer, you can substitute the video game for watching TV, which I’m certain 99% of people today do on a regular basis. Instead of plopping down on the couch, sit on an exercise ball. Hold a plank when the commercials come on, then the next commercial do a set up pushups, then the next do some squats, and then do some hyperextensions for your back on the next.

By doing this and sticking to it, you’ll never have an excuse that you don’t have time to exercise. Fat, lazy couch potatoes can be turned into athletic fitness gurus just by starting with this one simple idea.

If you happen to be a couch potato or just want a new exercise to do, I urge you to try this out. It’s great for days when you’re feeling unmotivated and can be tons of fun. You might even want to challenge your friends to a round of video game exercise to see who has the best overall skill in video games and fitness!

Video Game Testing - How To Become A Video Game Tester

Before you go out and start looking for video game tester jobs there are a few things you need to know. The work that a game tester does is far and away from being easy.

However, if you do have a true passion for video games (you should if you are reading this) then it could be an rewarding career for you. Becoming a game tester will also allow you to get your foot in the door at a game company. This is important as it may open up other possibilities for you in the game industry.

Other jobs such as game designer or game programmer are even better careers. You should still plan on going to school to learn these things. But you do not have to wait until you finish school to start testing games.

One of the first things you can do is participate in public beta tests for popular video games. This will allow you to become familiar with what a game tester actually may do on a daily basis. The great thing about beta testing is that it can be done from home in your spare time. As a bonus, often you will be able to get the final version of the game for free or at a reduced price. You may also be able to work at home for some game tester jobs but it’s not extremely common for this to happen, certainly not for a full time employment. It is possible to find some part-time work at home testing games.

As a video game tester you must have in depth knowledge of the operating systems or consoles that you will be testing on. Game companies really only want to deal with people that know what they are doing. Your main role as a beta tester is to find and report bugs and game defects. You will have to provide a detailed report on how to reproduce each problem you find. If you can not make a bug reproducible then you are wasting everyones time. Strong written and verbal communication is a must. As a game tester it is very important to be able to communicate effectively.

Remember that in life there is no easy way through whatever path you choose to take. This does not mean that being a video game tester won’t be fun. It is just hard work. If video games are really your thing then get out there and go for it. Just remember that it’s not a walk in the park like some would have you think.
