BMI is a very rough tool for estimating what a healthy weight for you should be. This tool is suited mostly for people of average build who are slightly over or underweight.
When I was in the military, my friends and I all had to do remedial fitness classes because we were considered morbidly obese on the BMI scale. Granted, I was 250 lbs, but I was also around 15% bodyfat and aced the rest of the physical. Far from being out of shape or really overweight. Some of my bodybuilder friends had bodyfat percentages well under 10%, yet they too were written off as morbidly obese.
BMI is a good tool, but it’s not the only one. It’s just a part of your tool kit in your pursuit of health and happiness.
